Ad Direct - a beginner’s guide
Classified Advertising works because adverts are grouped by type, so potential buyers can browse exactly what they are looking for. That is why it is important to select the correct section for your type of advert. For example, if you are selling your car, you must select motors, and not articles for sale.
If you have not placed an advert before, have a look at some of the same type of adverts in the paper, to get ideas of what wording to use, and how the different sizes and shapes look. Try to stick to short words or abbreviations, or you will run out of room. Click here for a glossary of common abbreviations used. If you are placing a family announcement (for example, a "Happy Birthday" or obituary), do not use abbreviations, but if you have a long message, make sure you choose a large size box. If in doubt, contact the Newspaper staff.
We offer only a small selection of our most popular types and sizes of adverts via Ads Direct, so if you do not see exactly what you want, please phone your nearest newspaper office where our telesales staff will be happy to help you. Contact us
