Giffard Park

Giffard Park lies at the most north easterly corner of the city of Milton Keynes. Named after Giffard, a Domesday Landowner. The Street names come from places in the Thames and Chilterns eg. Bromham Mill, Rowsham Dell. The area is long and thin and straddles the Grand Union Canal.

There is a pleasing mix of housing - something to suit every ones budget. Much of the housing has been built with the canal and the views across it in mind. Many have upstairs lounges with balconies overlooking the canal. Giffard Park is also home to the 10,000th house built in the city.(located just beside the local pond) There is also a delightful area of sheltered housing overlooking the school playing fields with a warden on duty 24 hrs a day. The only rental housing is midway along Hainault Avenue. There are over 150 shared ownership houses, a variety of for sale housing and north of the pond are a number of areas of self build houses. The pond is home to a family of swans who nest there every year and bring up their young and a variety of ducks. The pond is all that is left of the Newport Pagnell arm of the canal. At the heart of Giffard Park lies the Local Centre. Here you will find the school, a parade of shops, a family pub with restaurant and the community centre. You will find the Ho Ho fish and chip shop, The Rohan outlet store, a local convenience store, a hairdressers and an off licence. The community centre has a very active programme of events including weekly meetings of the cubs, brownies, guides and scouts, an over 50's club, the local church, mums and toddlers and every Sunday there is a church service.

For children there is a play park, the pond where they can feed the ducks and where swans regularly nest and bring up their young. Just the other side of the canal you will find Great Linford fields where there is a larger play park and a number of football pitches. This area is home to many Sunday morning football matches and cricket in the summer. The town centre is about 10 minutes drive away or half an hour if you travel by bike. There is a regular bus service into the town. Newport Pagnell is just a five minute drive away or a gentle stroll (1.5 miles approx) along a rural pathway called the Railway Walk. This was once the route of a branch line from Wolverton to Newport Pagnell. A few minutes walk up the canal brings you out into open countryside.
