Middleton & Milton Keynes Village
Situated on the eastern side of the city giving easy access to the M1 motorway and Bedford. The newer housing here is being built atound the old village of Milton Keynes.
The village is an oasis of tranquillity and a taste of the past. Originally Saxon, this small village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Its name derives from the DeCatrines or 'Keynes' family who owned the manor during the 13th century. The village contains many thatched buildings, including the 17th-century village pub, The Swan Inn which serves meals. Lower schooling is at Middleton Combined School. Secondary education is at Sir Frank Markham in Leadenhall. There is a health centre, Milton Keynes Village Surgery, in Middleton. It is a very rural part of the city. It is adjacent to Willen Lake to the north. Here you can find water sports, a trim tail, hotel, health club and a miniature railway. The Ouzel Valley Park with its beautiful walks and cycle rides runs nearby. The area itself has playing fields, a sports ground and play parks for the children. There is a paddock and allotments. The Milton Keynes Horse Trail passes through the village.
