Newport Pagnell

Newport Pagnell is a town situated north of Milton Keynes with residential and industrial areas and shopping and leisure facilities. Pictured below is a popular walk along the River Ouzel.

The origins of the town date back to the 9th Century and local archaeological finds suggest that there were settlements here through-out the Iron Age and the Roman occupation. The name Newport means 'new market town' and Pagnell derives from the Paganell family who had a castle on the site that is now Castle Close. In the 10th Century a Royal Mint was established in Newport Pagnell and the town became an important administrative centre for North Bucks. The town also became an important centre for the lace industry during the 18th Century, which lead to its development as a major coaching town. The town also boasts to manufacture one of the most famous names in motoring - Aston Martin Lagonda that have been made in Newport Pagnell since 1964.
