When we initiated the Pride in Milton Keynes Awards in 2006 we didn't know quite how they would take off.
We hear about the bad things in life every day but good things do happen - though in a quieter way.
At the Citizen and its sister paper Citizen First we take 'pride' in reporting the good news too.
Like the neighbour who keeps an eye on the elderly couple next door, the charity volunteer rattling a tin in all weathers or the friendly shop assistant who makes you go back to a particular store making us feel good about them, ourselves and our community.
Pride in Milton Keynes lets us recognise them and many others and we need not have been worried that you, our readers, would play your part.
Without the generous and kindly spirit of people like our nominees there would be no Pride in Milton Keynes – and that goes for YOUR nominations too.
If you think someone deserves a special pat on the back - let us and the rest of Milton Keynes know about it.
In 2008 we look forward to hearing again about Milton Keynes' unsung heroes and heroines, meeting many of them at the Awards Evening, recognising all their efforts and reporting on their exploits.
